Recently we have been awakened in the night by the shrill screeching of our cats defending their territory from a distressed yowling intruder. The cat in question is a poor unfortunate mother, who darts away before I can pet her. She must be getting close to having her kittens, for today she accepted food and shelter from us. She wanted to be petted and loved. We fixed a box in the quiet garage, equipped with a litter box, food, water and a delivery box lined with old rags.
