Remember last week I mentioned I was feeling a bit blue? It was a combination of things: rainy, gloomy day, too much work to do, missing my son who went off to college, hormone stuff, lack of sleep and head cold. Sometimes I watch a melancholy movie to help me cry or just cause it fits my disposition.
Well, the next day was a beautiful sunny day. I was rested and over my head cold. I still felt a bit cheerless, but I determined to get to work. So I folded clothes. I remember my grandma saying, "I've got to get my work done." She would then sweep and do her laundry. She was busy all the time, and seemed upbeat most of the time.
I went out to my garden to see what was there. I have so many things to thank the Lord for.
I came inside and began fixing a tasty meal. Soon I felt much lighter. I think accomplishing something, even if it is small, lifts one's spirits. I began thanking the Lord for His goodness to me. I'm so much better now. Busy hands are happy hands. My true and deep joy, however comes from the Lord. Joy never goes away. Happiness comes and goes with the wind and the weather. Happiness depends on my circumstances, joy comes from knowing my Lord and knowing He will never leave me.
Blessings, Kathi
"She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves behind the harvesters.’ She came into the field and has remained here from morning till now, except for a short rest in the shelter.” Ruth 2:7
This may not be correct, but I think of it like this: If my house burnt down I'd be SAD, but if I looked around and saw that our whole family made it out from the burning house; we were all saved, I'd be filled with JOY. If I had lost my family in the fire, of course I would be sorrowful, YES, I would, but the Bible promises me JOY in the morning, for I will see them again. There would be peace and joy for knowing this.

Hope this is a great week for you!
Thank you for this post. I had a similar blue spell on Saturday and was amazed that keeping busy did actually help!

This is a great post and I agree! Disney really had it with "Whistle while you work"! I'm glad you were able to pull out of the blues Kathi. You should read my post today. I talk a little bit about this too. I am getting scared I"m going to go into a funk when football ends. I pray I won't. It's going to coincide with Grayson moving out though. I know life keeps going, but it's sad when things are over FOREVER! booo whooo!
Beautiful post- there is most definitely a difference in happiness & joy! I think staying busy is a great way to shield off the blues. It works for me :)
