Thanking God For Work

We have some Mennonite friends who are always thanking the Lord for work. I have taken this to heart and have been thanking the Lord for work. I thought about this today as I drove to my substitute teaching job. I have jobs nearly every day this week. I'm so thankful.

God even gave Adam work to do before the Fall of Man, and sin had entered our world. I do believe the kind of work He gave to Adam was fun and interesting, and that he enjoyed it very much, compared with our mundane jobs and the difficulties we face just to make it from pay check to pay check. I also believe that things fit together nicely for Adam, and there were no wrenches thrown in, to foil his creativity, while doing these jobs. Just living here on earth now, after the Fall, we have flat tires, don't we? We have broken pipes, broken glass, icy mornings to drive in; broken needles while we sew, and bee stings, on-the-job injuries and more. We have fender benders, and missed deadlines, missed phone calls, mistakes of all kinds, which thwart our lovely plans and frustrate us while we do our work.

"The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it." Genesis 2:15 [This was before sin.]

God also gave Adam work to do after the Fall of Man, when sin entered our world.
"...cursed is the ground because of you;
in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread..." Genesis 3:18
This is where we are now along with Adam and Eve after the Fall, and sin entered our world.
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." Colossians 3:23 Someday when Jesus comes back for us and takes us to Heaven we will have things to do; wonderful interesting and awesome things to do. Heaven will not be a boring place.
"But rather what we are setting forth is a wisdom of God once hidden [from the human understanding] and now revealed to us by God--[that wisdom] which God devised and decreed before the ages for our glorification [to lift us into the glory of His presence].

None of the rulers of this age or world perceived and recognized and understood this, for if they had, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory.

But, on the contrary, as the Scripture says, What eye has not seen and ear has not heard and has not entered into the heart of man, [all that] God has prepared (made and keeps ready) for those who love Him." 1 Corinthians 2:9
There is so much hope and so much joy ahead for us who believe and love Him.

"You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." Psalm 16:11

I'm truly grateful for work also and that in these trying times that my husband and I both still have jobs. The other monkey "wrenches" can be frustrating though but it all teaches us patience and enduring to the end. I love your insight into things like this. They make me truly think in a deeper way about things. Thanks Kathi!

I have always been thankful for work. I'm especially grateful that both Eric and I have wonderful jobs and all four of my boys and my daughter-in-law have great jobs. I know all of us are happier when we work, that's the way God made us.
