Do I Need More Self Esteem?

I ask myself in jest, do I really need more self esteem? Not really. You see, when it comes to others, if there is a warmer spot further from the door..."aaah," I'll take it for myself.

If there is a larger piece of chocolate, "Mmmmmm," I think I'd rather keep that for Me, Myself and I. If there is one seat left on the bus, well, I think it has MY name written on it. You see what I am getting at? I am already geared for little ol' Me. My thoughts are already precious towards myself. Giving first place to others does not come naturally to me. It is something learned. How do I learn it? Well, the Lord tells us from the Bible. It is also something I can't really do well in my own strength. I need the power of God's Holy Spirit to help me. The flesh is indeed weak.

Matthew 7:12 "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you..." So, this means whatever I wish for myself warmer spot, more chocolate and a soft bus seat, I should do for others, and not think of myself first? "Gulp," yep, that's what it means. Here is another verse as a helpful reminder of how I should treat others: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails." The Living Bible says, "and hardly notices when others do this wrong." Well, I have a lot of work to do in my own life. I am not going to judge how you scored according to these verses. I do hope we all think about them and try to esteem others as better than ourselves. God bless you, Kathi
What I need is not more self esteem, but rather to serve others and think of them first. This in turn will boost my own esteem. Doing it God's way is the best way. Would you like a piece of my chocolates?

Dear Kathi,
What an important lesson! Thank you for reminding us. I went out on black Friday to get some laundry detergent and I was so dissapointed at what I saw! I wondered where did all of these peoples manners go? So sad!

Hugs,

Darlene

I love this post! I read it on FB too. It is so true that self esteem is way over rated! If people would love God, then their neighbor then themselves and truly be servants and work hard every day, they would not have self esteem issues!
