Christmas In the Barn

Want to go antique shopping with me? For me this is just one mile up the road from my house. This special event takes place every Christmas season in my neighbor's barn.
I just love it when she puts the signs up for her sale. I was determined to go early the first day she opened, but was bummed when I found out I had to work all day.
I got up early and went over on the second day she was opened. Here is her cute little barn.
She even sells Christmas trees.
Here is the entrance. Come along with me and let's go inside, shall we?

Oh there are so many fun and interesting things in here, and look free coffee and treats on that table ahead.
Because she buys things all year at garage sales and thrift stores, then sells for profit, the prices are not great. I love coming mostly to look and experience the fun.
I always like to buy something though, to support her and because her things are nice.
She keeps the barn warm with this pellet stove. It was actually quite cozy.
I wish all of you could have come with me.
These frames were cute. I love the ice-skates. I need to buy mine at a garage sale when the time comes for a lower price. I believe these skates were $18.
I couldn't decide between a black bread box for my kitchen or a bright red chair for my office.
The local Mennonite ladies sell treats, which are so tasty. Sorry for the blurry photo.
I like that chalkboard.
Oh I love that red holiday sign.
It would be fun to have a little tree like the one in the corner. Well, in the end I decided on the bread box. I've always wanted one. Now I know I could have gotten one for about $3 at Goodwill, but I wanted to support my neighbor and I really like this one so, I paid $9 for it. Thank you for coming along with me. Sharon, please come with me next year on the first day! I like adding a touch of black to my kitchen and a place to keep bread. Have a lovely day ladies. Thank you Lord for the bread inside my breadbox and for all I have, which You've provided for me. "I have been young; and now am old, but I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging for bread." Psalm 37:25

Actually, I can ice-skate, but have not in years. I would like a pair of old white ice-skates to decorate my porch. Sharon does this and it looks so cute.

Funny but this is like my bread box only mine is oak! I've had mine for over 30 years. I bought it to go in my trousseau!! This looks like a really fun tradition that you have over at your neighbor's!

Wow how fun and such cute stuff!
I just love shopping like that. I would rather pay more and support a neighbor than pay less and support a big chain. Thats why we buy our horse feed and supplies at a local feed store than the bigger chain.
I have LOTS of balck in my kitchen! Trying to bring in more red :)

What a wonderful barn setting. I'm thinking even $9 is a good deal but I never go to our Goodwill---they have NOTHING here.

It looks like an enormously fun place to visit. I have always wondered about bread boxes. Were they made in the old days to keep bugs and mice out? Or did it actually help to keep it fresh/ or was it simply something to put the bread out of sight. If you know the answer please tell me!! May be I should google it.

Oh, I found an answer to my question: A bread box is a container used for the storage of bread and other baked goods. A bread box is designed for the purpose of keeping bread fresh while helping to maintain uncluttered kitchen surfaces. Typically, bread boxes are very tightly sealed. When they work as intended, they trap moisture and prevent bread from becoming stale too quickly. They can also be helpful in keeping bread and other baked goods safe from pests, such as mice.

Often, individuals choose to store bread in refrigerators, thinking that keeping it cold will lock in moisture and prevent it from going stale. Unfortunately, the opposite often occurs and bread stored in the refrigerator may begin going stale after just one day. This is due to the fact that moisture loss doesn't really cause bread to go stale. Staleness is caused by retrogradation, a process by which starch molecules crystallize. Retrogradation occurs much faster in the cold temperatures of normal refrigeration, making the refrigerator a poor choice for storing bread.

Instead of refrigerating bread to keep it fresh, it is best to store it at room temperature in a container designed to retain moisture, such as a bread box. There are many types of bread boxes on the market, allowing consumers to find models that fit just about any kitchen decor and personal style preference. There are bread box models made of wood, acrylic, ceramic, enamel, stoneware and stainless steel. Bread boxes come with many different types of lids as well, including hinged, roll-top, handled, lift-off and drop-down versions. Consumers can even find bread boxes with handy attachments, such as pull-out bread boards

Kathi! OH MY GOODNESS! I love this place.....why have you not told me about this before!!! Let's go together some time. It is so cute. I would love to own a shop like that one day. I love the bread box, it is so cute, it looks Country French. I do have some of those ice skates out on the porch. I put them out every Christmas. I know you can find a pair at GW for cheap.

Have a happy Friday!

Thanks for taking us along to visit your neighbor's barn sale! What a fun post this was... I liked how she kept the barn warm and offered coffee 'n treats to her guests... Those Mennonite goodies looked great... there are several Mennonite and Amish communities near where I live and we're always so impressed with how they live, etc. My favorite goodie is Amish Shoo-Fly Pie... mmmmmm... Your "new" Bread Box is so pretty, Kathi... I think you'll be so pleased to own one. I have two that had belonged to my MIL and they're great!

I want to Thank You for your visits and also for naming your car "Pearl" ... how exciting! I hope "she" runs good 'n serves you well for many, many years... and, I hope things are going well with your job... Enjoy the weekend and take special care... God bless...
