Best Time Management Secret "Put Things Away!"

Believe me, I have them all...It's what I do. I am lacking and feeling insecure, I buy every book out there to help me with whatever issue I have. My issue is two fold: Time Management and Disorganization.
I've struggled with time management most of my life. I don't have a good grasp about how long it should take to do something. I'm always running out of minutes. I own nearly every top selling book and program for bettering myself. Every year the goal is the same, "Get Organized," and every year I have failed. I love each and every one of these books and authors.
These sisters are not only very funny, they make me feel normal and they actually have helped me. I relate to them. I could actually be their little sister, I'm so much like them.
I have made the card file they suggest and filled out the charts. I've done better because of them. I want to publicly thank them for encouraging me.
As hard as I tried though, I could not even keep up with their filing system. Each time I failed to be neater and more orderly, I'd go get another book by a new author. Sound familiar to anyone?Here is another really good book. She helped me pray more about my situation.
Emily Barnes taught me many things, but much of it did not help me because I was born left handed and creative. I am easily distracted. I will stop doing something important like the laundry so that one of the kids can show me a bug. I loved her book, More Hours In My Day, and her testimony. It was wonderful and I couldn't put it down, but I closed the book longing to be like her and knowing I never could.
This little book called How Do You Find the Time by Pat King is one that changed my life. I could actually follow many of her suggestions. Her godly wisdom and reliance on the Lord inspired me greatly. I loved it so much that I have purchased used copies three times and have read them over and over again. If I could I would get this book republished, maybe through Focus On the Family. It is that good and should be available to all wives and mothers who need help managing their homes and loving their families. It is out of print and can sometimes be found on the Internet. If anyone out there knows how to publish an out of print book please let me know. In the future, I'd like to share little treasured nuggets from her book. Until then, blessing to you dear friends. Kathi

"A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.

Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.

She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.

She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.

She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.

She gets up while it is still dark;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls.

She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.

She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.

Proverbs 31:10-18

The main thing that has helped me is to first of all pray that the Lord would help me where I am lacking. Also to repeat this in my head often, "Put Things Away...Put Things Away...Put Things Away..."

Kathi,
I can totally identify with your struggle regarding time management. I am always underestimating the time I will need to complete a task and I do easily get distracted. I feel like I am always running late. My goal is always to be more organized, but I never seem to achieve that goal. It can be so frustrating. I appreciate any books you can reccomend to help one be more organized. Anyway, know you are not alone, many women have the same struggle with organization and time management. I am one of them!
Also, I am so happy everything turned out well regarding your son Harrison's accident. I also pray daily for my three children's safety. I always surround them with God's protective white light. We must always listen to that still small voice within.
Take care,

Darlene M

Kathi,
I am not young, only in my mind and spirit. lol. I could have written this post, and have most of the books you have shared.
But you have found the key, and that is put away! put away! most important talk to the Lord. This is such a well written and inspiring post.
I think this series you will be doing is so timely, as so many women are struggling with the same issues, so I will pray that the Lord will continue to guide and direct you.
Hugs,
Sue

Did Flylady for a while...had every rawer and cupboard and room all in order...but fell off the wagon. Still some of her concepts stuck with me. Overall so much better. But need an overhaul again! Blesssings!

I don't have a problem putting things away, it's the rest of the people I live with, lol! Sometimes they ask me where something is kept and I tell them "the same place it's been for 15 years since we built this house!" Oh, they hate that! When I was setting up my sewing room in Travis' room a few months ago my oldest daughter said to me, "mom you're getting to be so organized!" I told her I always was but now that the kids were gone it was staying organized so she just thought I was doing something new! Now that she has her new baby and a toddler racing around the house she's beginning to understand what I mean!

You always have such good advice. The pictures wouldn't load for me this morning so I'll be back later to look at these books when my computer decides to cooperate!

Hi Kathi, great post for me because I could identify so well. Like you I have most of the books that you showcased. I am some better with time management and organization than I use to be, but still no where near where I ought to be.

I wanted to thank you for your visits to my blog this week and for sharing your sisters website. I use to go to her site alot...how I lost her link I don't know. (most likely from not being organized) anyway, I reread alot of her post. I REALLY wish she would continue her blog. I loved it!!!

Hope you have a awesome rest of the week.
Hugs,
Cindy

Hi Kathi....I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with these issue...I am getting better about putting things back in place, saves me so much time when I go looking for them again. I just need to manage my time better, I get so easily side tracked.

I had lots of catching up to do, it was great reading all you news, lots of happy times but the accidents was sure scary. I'm thankful for no injuries. I especially enjoyed your Father's Day tribute to you DH and your Daddy....just beautiful. Take care and hope your are having a good week....hugs, Linda

You have so many good qualities! Just don't beat yourself up about the areas in which you struggle.

I am great at picking up but hate to dust, esp high cobwebs. I do it about once a quarter.

We all have strengths and *areas that need improvement.* Thanks for sharing yours. :)

Kathi, I also am left handed but I contributed my disorganization from growing up in a disorganize home. Your post made me laugh, because I've done the same thing.
I married an organized man so I rose to the occasion like you reading over 22 organizational books many of the same ones you read.
I love Emilie Barnes and have met her. I also like Don Asslet, and Kathy Peel. I tried everything these books suggested. Then I picked and choose what worked for our family. It's easy to get organized it's harder to maintain that order. It's like keeping your weight down, reading the Bible and other disciplines it has to be done daily to stay on top of it.

I love love love books like this. Infact i had just finished reading side tracked home executives when I was asked to speak to a MOPS group back in March...so fun! However I could never figure out how to use their card system. Thanks for sharing your struggles! I relate...I'm such a perfectionist. xo rachel
