She Lied About Me, But It Is She I Really Feel Sorry For

This morning I mentioned someone had gossiped about me. After looking it up the real definition is slander. An 80 year old woman, Anna, spoke untrue hurtful words about me and my husband to my elderly mother-in-law in order to turn her away from us. This woman has been telling these lies to her church. I do not claim to be like Ruth from the Bible but, I will tell you I have prayed most of my life to be that kind of daughter-in-law. I love, Vivian, my mother-in-law. I keep wondering why Anna, who does not know us, would speak this way against us. What makes her tick? What's the heart issue here?
When hurtful mean things are stated as tho they are facts and expressed with a twist to persuade a person to think or feel the way they want them to it is so wrong. This unkind woman, Anna, has a daughter-in-law who hurts her and keeps the grandchildren away from her, and now has left her son for another man. I believe Anna may assume all daughter-in-laws are this way. I'm sad for her if this is what she thinks and for her suffering. My action plan is to pray for Anna. I am also praying she will meet me and see that I am good to Vivian and to stop spreading lies and speaking evil against us.
Thank you for listening and praying for me. I know the things spoken cannot hurt me because they are not true, they could, however hurt my relationship with Vivian. I believe in the power of prayer and especially for praying for my enemies. The last thing Satan expected was for Anna to receive prayer; prayer for love, peace, joy, happiness and good things to happen to her.
"You have heard that it was said, `Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, Matthew 5:43 and 44

I hope all is well, sugar. I know how it can be but don't be hard on yourself or her. Remember the scriptures.

Come by tomorrow for the white, pink and roses Christmas tree. It might lift your spirits up a bit, sweetpea.

Merry Christmas,
xoxo,
Connie

Hi Kathi,
i am so sorry to hear this, It seems Anna might be like you said thinking all dil's are like her former dil.
i think your plan of action will do wonders, I do feel so sorry for people who are so unhappy that they try and make others as unhappy.
The scripture you have quoted is one that I have read and quote so many times, as I have experienced similar situations, and believe you me sometimes it gets pretty hard, I will pray for God to continue to lead and guide you in this matter, and I will be praying for Anna, as well as your dear Mother in-law.

I have never personally met you , but what I can tell by reading your blog is that you love God with a pure heart, and those that do know you know this too.

May I wish you and your dear family the most blessed Christmas ever,
Hugs,
Sue

Kathi: You are certainly taking the higher road in this and I learn so much and am inspired by your example. I think you may be onto something with your thinking about her motives. I'll keep you in my prayers and pray for Vivian and follow your example in praying for Anna. God bless you for your faith and compassion and courage in taking the higher road. :)

Could Anna be jealous of your mother-in-law because of her relationship with you? Sounds to me like Anna is miserable and wants Vivian to be too. Just a thought that came to mind here. I believe in the power of prayer too...and I'll keep praying for this whole situation.
Hugs,
Judy

Kathi, I am sorry you have to go thru this. One thing that might be true is this woman is having Alzheimer symptoms. Often anger and hostility come through their personality because they "know"something is wrong, but don't know quite "what" is wrong. It probably doesn't have anything to do with you, but her own mind. Karen

Kathi--
Bless your heart! I have been in such situations before, and you are right to give it to God through prayer! When you give it to God, you will be free from the frustration of dealing with it yourself! Blessings to you and your family for a Merry Christmas!!!

wow, that's sad. It seems as if you are correct in saying she's hurting in her own relationship with her daughter in law and taking it out on everyone else. Sounds like she has some fear taking over her. I will pray for her along with you that she will heal her own hurts so she can stop hurting you. I will pray that Vivian knows you well enough not to be led down the wrong path by this woman's lies.

Thank you all for your prayers and encouragement. I'm so blessed with all of you dear friends. One thing about Alzheimer's disease which is sad, yet can be helpful, is the person forgets. Vivian does not even remember that Anna called and told her we don't love her and are using her, which was of course a lie, but I am so glad Vivian does not remember the call. We love Vivian and are so happy to have her living with us. Kathi ps and I'm thankful I can control who calls our home.

It sounds to me like Anna may be suffering from some sort of dementia. I know God is pleased with your forgiving, merciful spirit.

Hi Kathi!
Thanks for your kind words on my blog today. I love the idea of meeting at church and even playing Christmas music in July - I bet everyone loved your gifts that year. I'm sorry you are going through a tough time right now. Remember, God is a God of truth and every time I've prayed for truth I've gotten it. He will guide your steps and your words. God Bless!

I cannot believe that that lady would do that!!!! Grrr!!! What in the world could she possibly gain by doing this. I am so happy that Vivian has already forgotten it. You are right, she needs many prayers, something is missing in her life. How sad. I'm sorry you were hurt by this, but you have the right attitude.

Love you,

Sharon
