Just Dreamin' About Checked Floors and Stuff I Don't Really Need

Oh, I'm just dreamin'
Okay it's time for a new.... You name it... the oven goes out, the garbage disposal gets stuck in the on position ~ must use breaker switch to turn on and off. I'm thankful for my loving husband who fixed this in a matter of days. Thank you sweetie. The stove has only two working elements, the coffee pot just quits, and now the dishwasher won't start.
The woman who lived here before me had our 1913 kitchen remodeled 13 years ago. Everything was brand spakin' new. The problem is that she ran a bakery from her home. She put miles and miles of wear and tear on these appliances. It is as if they are 35 years old rather than 13.
My wonderful husband bought and installed this lovely Maytag. It is so quiet we have to put our ear down next to it to see if is actually running. I love it.
See how pretty it is. I chose white, just because I'm a more warm and fuzzy person; nothing against you stainless-steel gals.
I must ask the question though, does having this old broken dishwasher sitting on the drive-way, and the fact that my husband learned to drive on a John Deere tractor make us "RED NECKS?" According to Jennifer over at Dust Bunny Hostage, we could be. We hope not! Actually the dishwasher was carted away in two days by the loving people at HOME DEPOT, thank you very much.
I do not want you to think I am not grateful for what I have, but I was visiting Home-depot the other day, and just dreamin'. A girl can dream can't she? I love these marble counter tops.
Wow, look at the size of this wonderful fridge with the freezer on the bottom!! I'm drooling.
Oh my goodness. Just look at the price of this double oven $$. Right now, I am limping along with my double oven, which I am very very grateful to own, but it is on its last bake. I mean it is on the blink and going out for it's last broil. Right now to set it on bake it takes five minutes. The digital reader is very touchy. I must handle the knob precisely for it to set at the correct temperature. I am thankful to have an oven that does work, it just takes a few minutes to get it going. That's all right for now. I'll let you know how it goes. Next, the wood floors are in terrible shape. They must be re-done.Again, I don't want to be ungrateful AT ALL, but I'm tired of the wood floor in the kitchen. The real me screams, "Checked floors like this.
And this... I've always been drawn to these checked floors in the kitchen. The movie "Driving Miss Daisy," has the cutest kitchen with these floors. I have hard wood beautiful cabinets, which
would love to be paired with these checked floors.
I'm just dreamin'. I'm truly thankful and happy with what I have. Thanks for coming along with me on my dream. " Many of the things I want are just that, wants. They are not true needs. I found this verse and it's a good reminder to me. "...do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable then they?" Matthew 6:25

Going out for its last broil---you're funny. I agree with you about the checked floor. Somehow with just the little bit of peeking into your world it seems fitting that you should have a checked floor. Dreamin' isn't worrying. Here's to dreaming and hoping.

This was a fun post. I love to dream about things too. I feel it's a lot cheaper in the long run (lol). Our dishwasher died about a month ago. We're waiting until I can paint the kitchen to get a new one, and I can't wait.
Have a good Sunday.

I don't think you are alone in looking at niceties and wishing...It is so easy to get our eyes on what we don't have...just as Adam and Eve did, isn't it? I don't even have a dishwasher. I have cupboards that are missing drawers...I have the same floor from 21 years ago...but I have a kitchen! I always tell myself this: "At least I don't live in a cow poop house with a mud floor in Bangladesh!" I could so relate to your post! Leslie at Do You Weary Like I Do?

I hear ya sista! It seems like when something breaks, its just a matter of time before it all breaks. We have replaced all our new appliances except the fridge now, and I hope that doesn't happen! I'm glad that Stacey repairs things for you.

We must have some memory of going to a house that had checkard floors because that has been a desire of mine too, my whole life! I always have wanted cream colored cabinets too with lots of cut outs and glass front cabinets. I think grandma Ethel's kitchen was a little like that.

Maybe one day our dreams will come true!

Huggies! Shar

You have so much fun taking your camera everywhere, I must start to remember to take mine out with me. Thank You for the positive feedback and encouraging words. I appreciate the wisdom you share with me. I wanted you to know that. Today I figured out that in the back of the Bible you can look up subjects like "fear" and it gives you scriptures:) (im realy new at this):) so thats what I'm doing today. Thanks Friend

It is so much fun to dream. I do it all the time. I do have to check back into reality eventually, but until I do I have a great time.
Love your new dishwasher. Isn't it great to be able to carry on a conversation in the same room and not have to shout over it?
Dream on Sista, there is no harm in it. You do know where your treasures are stored and that is most important.

Hah! I don't know, maybe a smidge redneck??? Love it!

let me make a suggestion... we put the black and white checks in a bathroom. Sticky tiles and it was pretty cheap and easy to do. But it also showed me how easy or hard that flooring would be to clean and whether i would want to carry it into the hall and kitchen. Turns out, we DIDN'T want to. Hard to keep clean and we put a stone-look tile down. It was wonderful!!!!

I installed a tile floor once that was white and gray... same effect, but a bit softer. I waited until the tile was on a huge blow-out sale and bought them... and then waited until each item I needed to install it was on sale. Then I talked to tile installers and asked their advice (which they are more apt to give to a woman somehow), rented how-to videos at the library, dove in and DID IT!! It took a while to get it all and about a week to install, but it was super cheap that way.
One step at a time~!

Hi Kathi, it's okay to dream. I dream of having a Master Bedroom with a fireplace, a sitting area, two walk-in closets, with a beautiful bathroom in between. The bathroom will have a clawfoot tub that sits in front of french doors that lead out to a balcony that looks out onto the ocean, so that while Im soaking I can watch the waves and the dolphins swim. But my reality says also that I'm happy with what I have, but it's good to know what taste I have. You too. Deb

I used to have a black and white kitchen with the checked floors. As my fridge got old and wore I covered it with the matching checked contact paper. Yep- that was a little hard on the eyes. LOL! I have since change my kitchen.
