Today I'd like to share with you my baby bracelet. It was a gift from my Great Grandmother, Bessie Louise .
It is gold. Inside is inscribed with B.L.J. to K.L.W. 1960
Which means Bessie Louise J. to Kathi Louise W. Here is a photo of my Great Grandmother Bessie holding me in the back yard. She died about four years after this photo was taken. Victoria and Jessica both got to wear the bracelet in a few baby pictures. I suppose the first one to have a baby girl will get to keep the bracelet someday.
I think I'm the only one of us three sisters who still has hers. My sister Kelli traded hers to a little girl down the street for a toy, when she was about six years old. That little girl then threw it down the storm drain. How sad.
I don't remember a whole lot about my Great Grammie Bessie, but I am honored that she gave me such a lovely gift, and that she wanted a picture of herself holding me.
Above is her own handwriting on the back of this photo. I look forward to seeing her again some day in Heaven.
I am glad you came to see my special bracelet. Please stop in again to visit me. I'll put on the pot and we'll have some coffee.
"Oh Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation." Psalm 95:1

Grammie Bessie was not from Kentucky. She was from Kansas. I just heard this song on OPB on the show called:
"Wolf Trap's Face of America" - Highlights of new works by top choreographers and musicians, made to celebrate our national parks.
I couldn't resist putting it on. It's a perfect grandma song, don't cha' think? Have a very happy day, Kathi
Kathi! Thank Ypu for this very special story! Ruuta
I was about to say that I don't own any heritage, but I do. I have several dresses that my mom made for me as a little girl. I buy her tea cups and I am hoping that one day they will find thier way back to me. Aside from that my parents have gifted me with the incredible knowledge of saving grace and lifelong love- even when you don't feel like it.
Beautiful.....absolutely a treasure for us to view. I especially like the handwriting. That made it much more 'personal' for me.
My Show n Tell is ready for visitors.
Precious, precious!
What a treasure you have in your baby bracelet. All the memories it must bring you to hold it and to share it with your daughters. Your great grandmother has the sweetest smile on her face in that picture! And oh gosh, did Kelli get in trouble for trading her bracelet? And where is Sharon's? Inquiring minds want to know! :)
Blessings,
Gina
What a wondeful story! My MIL's name was Kathleen Louise! We named our youngest daughter Laura Louise after her. I'll bet your sister regrets her trade with the neighbor girl. What a terrible thing to do to her bracelet! I love the pictures of your girls with your bracelet on. Thanks for sharing!

You are one lucky girl to still have that bracelet and all the sweet memories to go with it. Thanks for sharing your sweet story.
It is so special to have a remembrance like your beautiful bracelet. I have only known one person named Bessie, and she was a delightful lady. My mother's name was Jessie.
Thank you for the nice comments you made about my mommy, and for the info about Show & Tell. I usually participate in this and I think it is really neat. Today I decided not to do it though. I think I'll just leave the tribute to my mother at the top of my blog.
Hugs & Blessings,
Charlotte
What a sweet story for show and tell. It is wonderful that you still have your bracelet from your Great Grammie Bessie. Your post was made extra special with the picture of you as a baby and the ones of your girls wearing the bracelet. They are just the prettiest girls.
Oh what a sweet story. And a lovely treasure. So sorry about your sisters. It is a cute story but bittersweet.
Thanks so much for sharing. Your post made me smile today.

Your girls baby picutres are unbelievable! They are absolutely adorable, I can't believe it!

P.S. I am on my lunch for work and I am at home!!! Can you believe it! It took me two minutes to get to work this morning! I love this new office!!!!
I loved seeing your baby bracelet and your sweet picture too....your GG handwriting on the back of the picture makes it extra special. Lovely treasures. Linda
What a special treasure you have and a great memory of the giver :)
I am so happy that Harrison brought that grade up. It must be a big transition for him now.
Kathi, the bracelet is so beautiful and the pictures of you with your great-grandmother and then your two girls - well, I almost cried they are so precious. My husband and I gave both of our granddaughters sterling silver engraved bracelets the day they were dedicated at church. I hope they still have them when they are mommies! Wonderful post, Kathi.

P.S. By the way, Kathi, are you officially Kathi, not Katherine or Kathleen? I am offically Kathy and my entire life I have been asked, "what is your full name?" It must have been the era...I am about 5 years older than you. I'm just curious...
How great to have the bracelet and the photo to keep together. I lost my baby bracelet out of a car window. My parents went back and combed our route that day, Mother crying, Daddy cussing. That's my memory of mine.

Oh what a touching post, I just love it. And the picture of her holding you in the yard is just such a wonderful memory.
Ironically when I saw the handwriting on the back it resembled my own grandmothers writing, I am glad to recall it.

What a beautiful bracelet...and a beautiful post about your Grammie Bessie!
Great post. I was blessed to have my grandparents around for so long. My gramma T. was able to hold her great grandchildren and now my mom and MIL will be able to hold theirs.
What a special show and tell. love that your girls wore it also.
Hi Kathi, Grammie Bessie gave you a wonderful gift, and even more wonderful it's one you've treasured and shared. I pray that Grammie Bessie's memories live on and that the gift she gave will nerver be lost. Have a blessed weekend. Matthew 2:11 Deb
That is funny you said Delta Burke. I have had so many people tell me that.
What a wonderful gift! I hope
you write this story down so when
you pass this bracelet down to
the next lucky young lady that
she'll know why the bracelet is
so special to you. The story
in itself, would be a wonderful gift too! (Hugs)
