Volunteering As An Awana Leader

I have discovered the joy of volunteering as an Awana leader. Awana is a club which trains children to memorize Scripture from the Bible. We sing songs, learn the truths from the Bible and play games. I love doing this. My reward is a smile and a wave from these children when I see them at church or school outside of club. That sparkle in their eye when they smile at me gives me such a joy in my heart.
Being a leader includes learning Scripture along with my kids. Right now I'm memorizing Psalm 1:1-6. Also, included is prayer for the kids in my group. I have five children in my Bible training group and I have eight in my game time group. I use the time on the treadmill for praying for them and for learning my Scripture. Because I tend to get lazy I have to make myself do this as an act of obedience to God and to discipline myself in good habits.  I feel wonderful when I do this.

Blessings, Kathi

1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction." Psalm 1:1-6

In our church we're given callings to serve. I always love it when I'm called to teach the children. They truly are amazing and can make me smile at the most random things. Good for you for volunteering with a cheerful heart.

OH! Kathi, this post brought tears of joy and wonderful memories for me, My dh was an Awana leader in our church for many years. This was a long time ago, and to this day, these same kids who are now adults, and have kids of their own will come to him and thank him for the influence he had on their lives. I so applaud you for doing this, as you too will be able to change lives by sharing the love of Christ! And like my dh you may never know all that has been done until you see them in heaven.

You should see the smile on dh's face when these adults come to him and there are so many that he doesn't recognize until they tell him who they are. ~smile~ I am sure when dh was teaching that he had no idea the lives he was impacting for the kingdom of God, and like you he enjoyed it so much.

I will be praying for you as you continue to be obedient to what God has called you to do. The smile on your face says it all! The joy of the Lord is our strength!
Much love,
Sue
p.s. Thank you so much for your sweet and kind thoughts but most of all for your prayers, I truly treasure your friendship.

That is so awesome Kathi! What a wonderful thing. I know I love teaching once a month in my daughter's Sunday School class.
