I Painted Over Wallpaper and Got Old World Texture

I'm ready to reveal my Old World style walls in my dining room.
I have been wanting to share this with you for several months.
..But, before I do, you must look at the old walls in the dining room. They were covered in pink striped wallpaper..
I wanted a fresh more sophisticated look. One in which I could use a peach or turquoise colored table cloth if I wanted to, or blue, purple, red and green. With the old color scheme I was stuck and nothing but pinks, creams and whites looked appropriate. Below is a picture of the newly painted dining room.
I chose a paint called "Pop Corn." It is the perfect color. I love it because nearly any color from burgundy or emerald to topaz or sapphire will work.
My huge dilemma was removing all of that wallpaper. I DID NOT want to do that. I found my solution on the Home and Garden show.
They said I could roll right over the top of that wallpaper if I use an excellent paint. I wanted texture so I found out about using crinkled up white tissue paper along with the paint to create an Old World texture.
After rolling the wet paint onto the wall, crinkle up white tissue paper and...
place it on the wall like this, leaving as many wrinkles as you'd like.
Dip the small roller again into that luscious paint and gently roll right over the top of that tissue you just placed on the wall.
Continue and repeat. Soon you will notice how professional your walls are beginning to appear.
As I scrutinized my work I looked on with dismay. I could see the wall paper line clear as a bell underneath my work. I decided to keep adding layers of tissue to help disguise this. Well, it never did go completely away, but it was looking enough like an Old World wall texture to me that I was happy.
I like the look of that texture in the above photo, and I love it that red tulips now go perfectly in this dining room if I want them there, "sigh."
There is a warm feeling in this room. I want to be in this room. I love this room!!! It's not so much that I love the color, even though I do, it's sorta that this room is now MINE, and not the lady who lived here before me. Yes, that's it. It's ownership.
The above two photos show entering the dining room from the kitchen. Now everything blends in my adorable farm house. Colors did not blend before. I did not sense harmony as I do now.
This is looking from the dining room into my cute farm house kitchen. I am really loving my home and it feels so much more like me now.
God be with you all today as you remember Him and acknowledge Him in your life. "One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple." Psalm 27:4

What a clever idea! The paint & texture looks great, Kathi! We painted over the wallpaper in our master bath a few months ago and were so happy with the result. Like you, we did not want to remove the paper. We used Behr paint with primer, only one coat was needed.

Smiles,
Carol

I LOVE it!!! What a huge difference it makes to have the walls solid. I can testify to the other readers that this looks fabulous as I have seen it in person. It really looks like they paid a lot of money to have their walls done professionally. Kathi, you did a great job and I think someday this is what I will do in my kitchen/family room. You are right that the two rooms now connect and look cohesive where as before they fought with each other. I'm so happy that you now feel at home in your own home!

Love you! Shar

Kathi, that is awesome, I wish I knew about that when I got rid of all my wall paper. I love the color, it is so warm and inviting in there. Very home like. Thanks for the advice.

Kathi, you are a wonder!! The results are astounding, and so beautiful. i have stripped wall paper before and it was a job, a big job!. I wish i knew about this before, and because it was such a big job, I decided against having wall paper when we built our present home, though i love it!
I will say it again the results are astounding, and you are right, it does have a peaceful feel about it. your thoughts on your home are like mine, I so enjoy being in my nest, and like you I enjoy feathering it. the title of your blog so fits how you feel about your home too!!!
I always feel so much love and peace here.

Today is the first day I have been online since posting, as we are still so busy. I guess when you are posting of all your veggies I will be sitting and enjoying reading about them. ~smile~

You asked about a followers button, I had one but took it off, because, I found myself looking at it more than I should. I am so thankful that you wanted to follow, and there is a way that you can, ( I found out how on another non followers blog), she said go to the top of your blog, and where you see follow, to click on it and you will be following.

Thank you for taking the time to leave me such a sweet comment. I am hoping to begin blogging more regularly soon.
As always such a joy to visit with you, i am so glad you are back posting, I just need some time to visit. lol For sure when the cold winds blow this winter I will be sitting by the fire catching up.
Hugs,
Sue

Hi Kathi,

First, thanks for coming over to my blog. I'm so glad to have found yours!
I love this idea...I just painted over some wallpaper in the house I'm living in now.
I love the floral paper in the adjoining hall/room and that green door. So pretty!
I know exactly what you mean when you say the room is now 'MINE'. I've always felt that way...even I liked something to begin with.
I'm excited to look around your blog some more.

So nice to 'meet' you!

Nancy

I also love the paint and the texture together. This is very similar to the walls in my house. We used colors like these and knockdown textured drywall. It is versatile. Thanks for linking it to Home Sweet Home!
