What's This? Is Jessica Babysitting A Baby?

Jessica came home from school with is adoarable baby. I was so surprised!
Then she showed me what was inside. It's a doll that really cries, needs to be changed and needs to drink a bottle. It's for her health class to teach students that caring for a baby is a responsiblility that goes on 24 hours a day.
The little doll looks so cute. She told me that the censor inside the doll keeps track of how long the baby cries, whether she was changed or fed, and whether her neck was not supported when held.
Jessica took the baby to youth group and buckled her into the seatbelt. Our son Harrison drove her. The baby didn't cry very much at all, but when it did it screamed!
When I woke up at 4:30 am, I found her alone in the kitchen eating breakfast. She said the baby cried all night. She finally figured out it needed to burp. She looked pretty tired. It was so cute to see her with this baby.
There is a censor inside the diapers, that in keeps a record, so it knows if Jessica changed it or not. I thought the doll was so cute. I had a similar encounter with babies when I was her age. I took care of twin boys for two weeks while their parents were in Sweden. I got up every night and held them, fed them and changed them. It was a great experience for me and made me realise at a young age that babies take time and need love.
Tip for young moms. When we were growing up our mother assigned a colored cup for us. It was our very own and no one else used it. We were to keep them in the same spot inside the dishwasher. We pulled our cup out to use it, then put it back when done. This way Mom did not have zillions of cups left all over the place and reduced the number of cups in use. I used this with my children too. Have a great day ladies. Kathi

"Train up a child in the way he should go;
even when he is old he will not depart from it."

—Proverbs 22:6

I think that is so neat how they use those special dolls now to teach kids how big of a responsibility babies are. We never had anything like that when I was in school. In fact we never even TALKED about stuff like that in school. I think it is a great educational tool.
Oh, and I tried that cup idea in my house and it never worked. I still have a major cup issue even as grown as the boys are :)

My kids brought these babies home too. Brianna had to take her's to dance class and I felt so sorry for the teacher! 12 young girls and most of them had to keep stopping to take care of their babies!! I like the cup idea too, especially now that the dishwasher is broken. I'm doing dishes by hand for a few months bz it's too expensive to fix and we're better off getting a new one. It's 14 years old so I guess it was time. Have a great weekend! Cindy

when i was in middle school i had an egg baby. i had to paint a face on an egg and make a diaper for it and a blanket and a bed. yes for an egg. the teacher marked them in a special way so that if you broke yours you couldn't swap it out and pretend it didn't break. let's just say an egg doesn't really teach you anything about babies like these new baby dolls do. i am so glad i didn't have to deal with the doll back then, lol.

I think that is a GREAT idea. Amazing. I think every teen needs to udnerstand the hard facts of having a baby. Too many romanticize it. Too many even get pregnant on purpose thinking it will fill in a hole and give them love not fully understanding all the work that it involves. I wonder if I could borrow that doll for my boys...LOL!

Great idea with the cups! But I've only got one, so I guess it wouldn't work, huh? xoxo :)

Great idea with the cups. I only have one drinking from a cup now but I already have go on a daily hunt for his cup. I can see this coming in handy in just a few months.

Thank you for your comments, Kathi! You always bless me.

I feel so sorry for your daughter, up in the wee hours of the morning with a screeeeemin' doll! I guess that's a good taste of reality though. Crazy!

When I was a teacher at Gervais HS, I ordered one of those dolls for my health classes too! It was great to get the digital report on how long baby cried, how many times, and if it was dropped or ignored for too long! I loved the teaching tool. ~Tera Knox
