Springtime Trilliums

Ever since we moved to our farm, we go out to a place we call "Shady Thicket," to look for a little white flower called a trillium. They are part of the lily family. They show up around Easter time and are known for their three green leaves, three green sepals, and three white flower petals, thus the name trillium. They remind me of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We have goats, who like to eat them, so they are becoming harder to find.
This is Harrison and Jessica a couple of years ago.
This is Garrett this year drawing his trillium Harrison wanted to go with us, but he didn't feel like drawing them. He wanted to practice retrieving his gun from a hanging posision. The girls were not home today, so they could not come with us. I hope you've enjoyed seeing the pretty trillium flower. The trillium is such a pretty flower. I hope some of you can find them in a shady wooded area. God bless you today, Kathi

Oh I had never heard of the Trillium flower, but what a great idea to go look, and what a great resemblance of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit! You have such a great place out there, my home schooled kids would love to have the goats and the land and the open area, it sounds wonderful and looks wonderful! Thanks for sharing this!

What a pretty flower Kathi. I love it that it is like the Father, Son and Holy spirit. It is so cute that you have your kids draw them. What a great memory they will going out to Shady Thicket and having picnics and studying the flowers. Harrison looks pretty cool doing that, just like some hero in a movie!

Love ya, Sharon

That is so pretty. I've never seen one. But the whole adventure reminds me of myself when I was a child. I would search the hillside for the first tiny flowers to appear and pick them for my Mother. We had goats too. They LOVED the tiny crisp new sprouts! Have a wonderful day, Kathi! xoRachel

I believe those flowers used to grow in the woods behind the house I grew up in (in CT), except that the petals were a burgundy color. Very pretty indeed! We also had Jack in the Pulpits, which I believe are also very rare. I found your blog through your sister Sharon. Creative blogging must run in the family :-)

It looks so lovely and peaceful where you live Kathi, a really nice place for the children to grow up. I've never heard of that flower either, so thank you for sharing it with us sweetie!

Trilliums are my favorite flower,
we also have the redish/pink ones.
But mostly the white, a sure sign Spring is near where you live!

I've heard of the flower, but never seen it. We live in Wales, UK, and I don't think we have anything similar at all. Loved the photos of your son "hanging out"!
